Heilbronn University teams up with universities in Cairo
Heilbronn University is the first institute of higher education in Germany to conclude a cooperation agreement with Cairo University which, with around 250,000 students, is one of the largest universities in the world. The agreement envisages the exchange of students and lecturers, joint research projects and collaboration with Egyptian businesses. Heilbronn’s English-language master’s degree in “international business and intercultural management" and the bachelor’s degree in “international business management – intercultural studies”, which is also partly taught in English, already have a well established focus on the Arabic cultural area. Cairo University is extremely interested in the cooperative venture, which fits in perfectly with its endeavour to launch a master’s degree course similar to the one in Heilbronn. Under the terms of the cooperation agreement semesters abroad at either university will be accredited in full to students’ degrees.
Heilbronn University specialises in electrical and industrial engineering, computer science and business studies and caters for approximately 5,000 students. The responsible dean, Professor Elias Jammal, is optimistic that his students will gain an authentic insight into ordinary Egyptian life and will be able to establish contacts which will prove useful to them later in their working lives. The delegation from Heilbronn which signed the contract with Cairo University last week is also negotiating cooperation terms with the traditional Al-Azhar University and the American University Cairo. Heilbronn hopes that it will soon be able to reach a similar agreement with these institutions as well. The German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce was involved in all the negotiations.
