The University of Freiburg is offering a new Master's degree course in photovoltaics in collaboration with the city’s Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE). According to the University, 16 students from Germany, USA, Egypt, China, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Singapore and Spain from prestigious international companies and universities have already been admitted to the course.

“Photovoltaics” is the sixth online degree course launched by the University since 2007/2008. Online means that students are able to tailor their continuing study as flexibly as they need to. Learning on the train, by plane or at home is supplemented by short spells of campus-based placement study and seminars in Freiburg.

The combination of adaptable “blended learning” and a technological focus is absolutely unique. In over 20 lectures, seminars and placements the accredited degree course provides students with in-depth training in the physics, technology, systems engineering and business management aspects of photovoltaics. One crucial element of the practical training offered to students is work in the Fraunhofer ISE’s laboratories in Freiburg. Students successfully completing the degree are awarded a “Master of Science” which will improve their career and promotional prospects.
