Heilbronn University builds on its existing cooperation with China

Heibronn University, one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg, is extending its cooperation with Hefei University of Technology in China. In addition to established exchanges of engineering students, which were contractually agreed in 2004, the two universities now plan to work closer together on their business administration degree courses. This is the upshot of a “China week” in Heilbronn which was attended by nine professors and researchers from Heilbronn's partner university in China. According to sources at Heilbronn University the aims of the event included stepping up cooperation on joint research projects, fostering closer contacts, identifying fields of research which could be pursued by both universities and preparing relevant applications.

Prof. Dr. Ruth Fleuchaus, prorector for marketing and internationalisation at Heilbronn University considers the expanded cooperation to be an important step forward. The importance of an economically booming China cannot be overstated and the cooperation will enhance relationships between China and both the university and the region of Franconia as a whole.

To date cooperation has encompassed the technical fields of microsystems and mechatronics. In fact, the latter was the key focus topic of the inter-faculty “Workshop on Research and Education in Mechatronics” held during the university's China week. A series of public lectures were given on the subjects of “Doing Business in China” or “How to make Chinese Customers happy!” Prof. Juguang Lin from Hefei University of Technology, who is also a member of the board of the Chinese company JEE Automation Equipment Co. Ltd., shed more light on Chinese business culture in his talk on “Today's Technology & Tomorrow's Productivity – Rapid Development Way of China Equipment Localization”. A particular attraction at the event was the information provided by Manfred Leiser from the Schwäbisch Hall Bausparkasse on “Sino-German Bausparkasse – The first Sino-German home savings and loan institution”. The cooperation options available to both universities were also presented at the Eighth Chamber of Industry and Commerce Education and Training Fair which was being held in Heilbronn at the same time.
