Baden-Württemberg – In 1832, Friedrich Kammerer from Ludwigsburg had a flash of inspiration – he invented phosphorous matches, and began mass producing them. However, he’s not the only one in the region to have bright ideas: Baden-Württemberg has a strong reputation for being a thriving center of invention, and has the highest number of patent applications anywhere in Germany.
